Stormy weather rumbled across parts of Iowa last night and early today. Watches and warnings for severe weather were posted by the National Weather Service.

Brad Small, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says reports of severe weather included 1-2-inch hail to widespread wind damage to trees as big as a foot in diameter, which led to numerous power outages.

Small said there was also severe weather activity in southeast Iowa just before dawn today as the storms moved eastward. Small said residents, especially in northern Iowa, will have to be on guard for the potential of more storms later in the day.

Heavy storms now in Nebraska will roll into Iowa later today with more rounds of storms likely this afternoon and into tonight. Temperatures across Iowa are returning to normal after a cool start to the month with highs in the 80s forecast today through early next week.
