Leaders in Sioux City have voted to ban couches and other furniture from front porches. The Sioux City city council voted 3-2 to ban the storing of indoor items on the exterior of properties.
The ordinance focuses on front porch couches and was first proposed in June. The issue was delayed several times as the council was split. Mayor Mike Hobart voted against the ordinance saying it’s intrusive to make it illegal to store or use indoor furniture and household appliances on your porch.
Councilman Dave Ferris voted for the ordinance and says the furniture and appliances outside become a nuisance and bring down home values. The council seemed unanimous on one thing — they’re pleased that they won’t have to discuss this issue again in the future.
