It’s a sort of “snow day” for the U.S. House of Representatives and Republican Congressman Steve King is stuck in western Iowa as his flights to D.C. have been cancelled because of snow in the nation’s capitol. King is at home in Kiron, calling and emailing other Republicans in the U.S. House, asking them to co-sign a “Declaration of Health Care Independence.”
“It’s actually set up on parchment paper in Old-English longhand writing script,” King says. “It actually looks like the Declaration (of Independence) and it says a lot of things like the Declaration.” So far, 88 Republicans in the U.S. House have signed the document, which King says both outlines what’s wrong with the health care plans Democrats have drafted and offers “new rules of the road.”
King says President Obama and Democrats should “start all over” on health care reform. “We need to move forward with individual bills, stand-alone cmoponents of health care reform,” King says. “…And let’s start with ending lawsuit abuse in health care in America.”
