A Davenport man being chased by cops jumped to his death. It happened early Sunday morning in a downtown parking ramp. Guardian Angels called 9-1-1 to report the possible sexual assault of a woman in the vicinity.

When police checked the parking ramp, they saw a car backing out of a parking space on the first level. It hit a van, then headed toward upper levels of the ramp. As police pursued the car, its driver hit a parked car and a squad car. He then drove to a corner of the fourth floor of the ramp, where he abandoned the car, jumped over a railing and fell to the pavement below.

Twenty-five-year-old Andre Klinghammer of Davenport was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is set for today in Iowa City. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident since the death occurred during a Davenport Police investigation.
