The Iowa State women jumped out to a big early lead and rolled past Lehigh 79-42 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Ames. Anna Prins had 21 points to lead the Cyclones and Chelsea Poppens added 18 as the Cyclones snapped Lehigh’s 16 game winning streak.

I.S.U. coach Bill Fennelly says they played hard and he is excited to continue to play. He says while the Cyclones played well on defense they are still fouling too much. Fennelly says if they foul and put people on the free throw line, then they are going to lose.

Senior Allison Lacey returned to the lineup after missing four games with pneumonia. She agrees with her coach that they foul too much and hopefully they will improve on that.

The Cyclones will take on a Wisconsin-Green Bay team on Tuesday night that got by Virginia in Sunday night’s first game. Lacey says every game gets harder and they need to improve if they want to get to the Sweet 16.

The Cyclones improved to 24-7.
