The mystery behind the disappearance of a Britt man four months ago has been solved as his body is found near Thompson. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says in a news release that they were called shortly before 6 o’clock on Tuesday night to the rural area of County Road R-34 and 430th Street after someone spotted a male body and a red truck in a thick wooded area.
On arrival, Winnebago and Hancock County officials identified the driver of the vehicle as 43-year-old Jon Weiland. Weiland was reported missing on December 19th. Results of an investigation conclude that Weiland was driving southbound on R-34 when he drove off the roadway on a curve. After leaving the roadway, it’s believed that Weiland lost control of the vehicle and struck several trees.
