A man who was a guest at a Mason City hotel is being fined after his pet snake got loose. A magistrate judge has issued a $65 fine to a man for allowing his pet snake to be free at the Holiday Inn in Mason City earlier this month.

Police say that 25-year-old Michael Salo allowed his five-year-old bull python to be on the loose in a hallway of the hotel without any control or supervision on May 1st. He was charged by police with a violation of the city’s animal control ordinance. A hotel manager says an employee noticed the snake and notified authorities, adding that Salo later apologized for the incident.
