A late-night motorcycle crash on Interstate 35 in Worth County left one person dead, another hurt. The Iowa State Patrol was called at around 11:45 Wednesday night to the 207 mile marker for an accident in the northbound lanes. A motorcycle driven by 33-year-old David Leegaard of Northwood lost control due to an engine malfunction.

The motorcycle came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway with Leegaard underneath it. Leegaard was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, 27-year-old Desiree Miller of Northwood was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, where a nursing supervisor says she was treated and released. The Worth and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Departments assisted the Iowa State Patrol in investigating the accident.
