A Davenport man who is in jail is facing murder charges. John Neppl is already in Scott County Jail on two charges. He’s accused of attempted murder in the stabbing of a recent roommate, Anthony Keown. He’s also accused of abusing a corpse for allegedly burying the body of an earlier roommate, David Spriet, in his back yard.

Now Neppl has more problems. The Scott County Attorney is charging him with second-degree murder in a connection with Spriet’s death. Neppl and Spriet were roommates in Neppl’s mobile home in rural Scott County when Spriet disappeared last year.

In April of this year, the sheriff’s department, acting on a tip, discovered Spriet’s body during a search of Neppl’s back yard.
