There was a late-night livestock round-up along Interstate-80 last night after a semi carrying pigs overturned. A 41-year-old trucker from Canada was driving down Interstate-380 with a load of 82 pigs.

At about nine o’clock last night, he took the ramp onto eastbound Interstate-80, but lost control and the semi overturned. The roadway was “closed for several hours” according to the Iowa State Highway Patrol crash report. Some of the animals were injured in the crash, but a handful of the pigs got loose and found a nearby patch of mud to wallow in until they were corralled.

The pigs came from Manitoba, Canada, and were headed to market in Illinois. The semi driver wasn’t hurt. He’s been cited for failing to maintain control of his rig.
