More rain is falling on wide sections of Iowa this morning, though the soil is already well-saturated in many areas — with scattered Flood Watches and Warnings in effect across a number of the state’s counties. Meteorologist Miles Schumacher, at the National Weather Service, says it’s unfortunate, but the wet weather of the past two months is continuing into August.

Schumacher says Iowa’s northern two-thirds will be getting at least an inch or two of rain today, with some locations getting as much as four inches of rain tonight. He says some counties got 12 to 14 inches of rain during the past month, while others got an entire year’s worth of rain during the past two months. Schumacher says we may have a few dry days, later this week.

He says cooler air is dropping into parts of Canada and the northern U.S. which may push the front that’s been hovering over Iowa for weeks farther north. Several counties in southwest Iowa are under a Heat Advisory today as temperatures will be well into the 90s with a heat index that may reach 110.
