The Iowa Department of Public Health is launching a campaign to warn parents about the dangers of a synthetic marijuana known as K-2 or Spice. The campaign involves public service messages featuring the parents of 18-year-old David Rozga, a recent Indianola High School graduate who shot and killed himself following a K-2 induced panic attack.

Last month, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy took action to ban K-2 sales in the state, but health officials say it could still be available through other means. K2 was sold primarily in smoke shops and stores that sell incense.

The PSAs encourage Iowans to learn more about K-2 through a toll-free phone number (866-242-4111) or the website www.drugfreeinfo.org.
