Cedar Rapids Police are asking for the public’s help to determine why a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on an interstate this weekend. Police say 44-year-old William Benest of Cedar Rapids was walking on Interstate 380 when he was hit by a car around 1 a.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened just north of the interchange with Glass Road NE in Cedar Rapids. Police are hoping someone who was around that area at the time of incident might come forward with more information. Investigators are not sure why Benest was on the interstate or where he had been before he was hit. The name of the person driving the car has not been released.
