Traffic crashes in Norwalk and Clive claimed lives Tuesday. Both crashes happened late Tuesday afternoon. In Norwalk, two vehicles collided on Highway 28.

Authorities say 62-year-old Sheryl Freeman of Norwalk was driving a car that crossed the median and hit a Jeep Cherokee head-on. A passenger in the Jeep, 18-year-old Jennifer Letze of Des Moines, was pronounced dead at the scene. Freeman, plus two 18-year-old boys who were in the Jeep, were taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

The other accident, in Clive, killed an 84-year-old man from Adel. The victim’s name has not been released, but police say he was driving a van that pulled out from a stop sign and into the path of a pickup truck. The 19-year-old driver of the truck was not injured.
