Jury selection is underway in the trial of a central Iowa man accused of killing a woman in a hit and run nearly five years ago. Annamarie Rittman was killed on the morning of December 27, 2005 as she reported to work at a Lowe’s store in Altoona. The 46-year-old Rittman was hit by a pickup in the store parking lot.

Police made an arrest in the case two-and-a-half months later after reviewing surveillance video from the parking lot. Justin Pollard of Altoona, who was 22 at the time of the incident, is now 27 and faces a charge of first-degree murder. His first trial ended before testimony began when a judge rejected the prosecution’s request to use the security video. Polk County Judge Joel Novak has not said what he will allow as evidence during this trial.
