Webster City leaders last night approved arrangements for the city to become home to a new fabric care technology center. Electrolux Home Care Products is donating the former Electrolux Central Vacuum System plant formerly known as Beam Industries on West Second Street to the city.

In turn the city will lease the building to Electrolux Major Appliances as the location for the Fabric Care Technology Center. The center will be responsible for research, new product development and engineering support for Electrolux Laundry Products.

Webster City City Manager Ed Sadler said there will be 80 jobs with the Tech Center. The hope is that the center will expand in the coming years. It will employ engineers, technicians and support personnel. The building will be equipped with the latest development and testing equipment to support the mission of creating industry leading laundry products for consumers nationwide.
