Drake University in Des Moines is launching a $200 million fundraising campaign. The so-called “quiet phase” of the campaign known as “Distinctly Drake” drew more than $74 million in gifts and pledges over the past four years.

Drake President David Maxwell says much of the money will help recruit the best and brightest students to the private campus. “To attract these students, to reduce the burden of debt on their futures and their families, and to remain competitive in higher education, we seek to raise at least 50-million dollars for scholarship endowment,” Maxwell said.

The campaign will also help fund endowments for 26 faculty positions and pay for building renovations and expansions. “Including significant renovation and additions to our science facilities, a new school of education building, the renovation of Cartwright Hall and the Law School and of Cowles Library and the revitalization of the Fieldhouse,” Maxwell said.

A $5 million redesign of Hubbell Dining Hall is already complete.
