A Monona man is being held without bond on first-degree murder charges following a weekend incident in rural Allamakee County in far northeast Iowa.

Authorities say 33-year-old Christopher Thompson was taken in custody after a standoff with authorities. Law enforcement was called around eleven-30 Saturday morning on a report of a female being shot. Upon arrival, 40-year-old Angela Gabel was found dead in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle at the residence.

Authorities say Thompson exited the residence holding an eight-month-old infant, and then retreated back into the house. After negotiations, Thompson surrendered himself and the infant. Thompson was taken into custody. The infant was unharmed and released to family members.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
