An explosion left a Cedar Falls man seriously injured Wednesday. Cedar Falls fire rescue, paramedics and police were called out to the 7500 block of West 12th Street in Cedar Falls about two p-m Wednesday on the report of a fire and a person injured.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was burning brush in a galvanized water tank and had poured a flammable liquid from a five-gallon container onto the fire. The result was an explosion, and the person was covered with burning liquid. The explosion was powerful enough to blow the bottom off the container.

The victim was taken to Covenant Hospital in Cedar Falls. No condition is available. Fire officials caution residents that it is extremely dangerous to use flammable or combustible fluids to start a fire.
