The deadline is next week for Iowa flood victims to register for federal assistance through FEMA. Next Wednesday, October 13th, is the final day to register for aid. FEMA spokesman Pete Garcia says Iowans who were in declared disaster areas who had damage need to sign up before it’s too late.

“Maybe this is something you’ve been putting off for a while, like, I really don’t have enough damage, I’m not going to qualify, that kind of thing,” Garcia says. “Go ahead and register. Get into the system. That way, you’ll be able to see if you do qualify for some type of help to help you make some repairs here at home.”

Disaster Recovery Centers around the state are expected to close by the end of October, though several have already shut down. To register with the agency for assistance, call 800-621-FEMA or visit: “www.disasterassistance.gov”.
