The goal for Iowa basketball coach is simple, play faster and win more games. McCaffrey took over after Todd Lickliter was fired following a 10-22 season in which the Hawks averaged less than 60 points per game in the Big Ten.

McCaffrey says it’s a sophisticated fan base that knows what good basketball is, and they know what a good coach is, so he says they have to not only change their style of play, but do it in a way to win games.

McCaffrey says the Hawkeyes must push the tempo but at the same time limit turnovers. He says it can’t be a “rat race” as they have to make the other team work defensively and offensive to score and work hard in the trenches to rebound.

Iowa’s regular season opener is November 16th against Louisiana-Monroe.
