Today was a deadline for candidates running for congress to report their fundraising totals.

Chuck Grassley, the Republican seeking a sixth term in the U.S. Senate, raised about $730,000 from July 1 through the end of September.  Roxanne Conlin, the Democrat running against Grassley, raised about $330,000 during that period.

Grassley had far more cash-on-hand –$4.7 million – for the campaign’s final stretch, while Conlin reported having about $800,000 in her campaign account on September 30.  Conlin, a Des Moines attorney, has loaned her campaign about a million dollars since getting into the race about a year ago.

A Republican congressional candidate loaned her campaign nearly $360,000 this summer. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, an eye doctor from Ottumwa, is challenging Democratic Congressman Dave Loebsack of Mount Vernon this fall.
