Davenport police are investigating the second death of a young child in a little more than a week. Medics were dispatched Wednesday afternoon to a west Davenport home on the report of an unconscious baby in a bathtub. Nine-month-old Lila Stalder was rushed to a Davenport hospital, then transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City. She died Thursday night.

In the meantime, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office has taken over the homicide investigation and possible prosecution in the death of a three-year-old Davenport boy on October 12th. Addison Baldwin was taken to a hospital by his mother’s boyfriend while she was at work. The child died of blunt force trauma.

The Scott County Attorney turned the case over to the state to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. That’s because of a relationship between the child’s family and a county court bailiff.
