An elderly pilot from rural Woolstock has been killed in the crash of his private airplane in north-central Iowa. Wright County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of a plane crash that occurred at around 2:40 Thursday afternoon.

A twin engine plane operated by 80-year-old Arden Tweeten crashed in a field about a half mile west of the Clarion airport. Tweeten was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The FAA is expected to be on the scene this morning to conduct an investigation.
