William Penn is getting ready for its biggest game in years. The Statesmen close the regular season at home against St. Francis of Illinois and the winner claims at least a share of the title in the Midwest League of the Mid-States Football Association.

Penn coach Todd Hafner says they haven’t had a game like this since he has been here. At 9-1 overall and ranked 13th in the latest NAIA poll a victory would likely assure the Statesmen a spot in the national playoffs. A loss would end their season, and he says that’s how they approach it and he says the veteran team understands.

The game will feature Penn’s option attack which averages 423 yards of rushing per game against a St. Francis defense which is giving up only 104 yards on the ground per game. Hafner feels good about their playoff chances if they win as their only loss is to a top-ranked team at their place.
