A recreation trails project in Fort Dodge will receive financial backing from the state. The Vision Iowa Board today awarded Fort Dodge with a $1.2 million grant toward construction of 15 different trails. Jessica O’Riley, spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Economic Development, says the trails cover 14 miles.

“It’s actually part of an overall comprehensive plan,” O’Riley said. “This 14 miles of new trails will serve as a backbone for future trail expansion.” The $6.7 million project is slated for completion in 2014. “I think the key component of this is that it connects so many different areas of the city,” O’Riley said.

“People will be able to bike from the hospital to the recreation area, to the school or ball fields. It really will give them more connectivity.”
