The Davenport City Council is throwing its full support behind putting its casino on dry land. Isle of Capri’s Rhythm City Casino is still floating on the Mississippi, and city leaders have been pushing for a land-based casino development similar to those thriving in nearby Bettendorf and Rock Island.

Aldermen voted 10-0 Wednesday night to support a $75- million casino and hotel proposed by a Chicago company, M-S-E-G, for downtown Davenport. M-S-E-G now has two years of exclusive rights to negotiate with Isle of Capri for transfer of the gaming license.

Then any change needs to be approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. Mayor Bill Gluba says this is all about bringing more money and jobs into the community and treating Davenport like the first-class city that it is.
