As a 17-year-old suspect in the murders of two northern Iowa convenience store clerks awaits trial, his victims are being laid to rest.

The funerals for Sheila Myers of Humboldt and Vicky Bowman-Hall of Algona will be held today at churches in those respective two towns. It’s been a week since the tragic robberies and shootings took place.

Over the weekend, fundraisers were held on behalf of the families and received good participation. The families have also issued statements of appreciation to people in the region for reaching out with sentiments of help and support.

The suspect in the case, Michael Swanson of Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, remains in the Kossuth County Jail. He opted to waive preliminary hearings that were scheduled in the two counties this week and next.
