U.N.I. extended a home court winning streak and Iowa State’s unbeaten start is over after the Panthers downed the Cyclones 60-54 Wednesday night in Cedar Falls. Jake Koch’s jumper with just under one minute broke a 52 all tie and U.N.I. sealed the game at the free throw line.
The pace of the game was played to UNI’s liking as the Cyclones were held 30 points below their average.
Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg says the Panthers make you play ugly basketball, and Hoiberg says they were not able to pull away when they go up by 9. It was I.S.U.’s first loss after they opened the season with six straight wins.
Hoiberg says the loss stings as he felt they should have won the game and the team was very disappointed. Iowa State made only 18 of 54 shots in the game, including just six of 20 from three point range. Hoiberg says he’d take the looks they had every game, but they just couldn’t make the shots when they needed too.
