A man who was arrested in far northwest Iowa on a forgery charge now faces time in federal prison and eventual deportation. Twenty-seven-year-old Mario Paulo-Alfonzo was pulled over on a stretch of rural highway in Osceola County on September 5th because the tint on his car windows was too dark.
He was charged with forgery and providing false information, as his I.D. was fake. This past week he pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally reentering the country. Alfonzo is from Guatemala and he had been deported in December of 2008.
He’ll be sentenced later, and faces up to two years in a federal prison for the crime.
