The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a man has been sentenced in what it calls a case of “Sex-tortion.” Prosecutors say a 25-year-old from north central Iowa threatened to post sexually-explicit photos of his former girlfriend on the Internet.

The photos were taken when the two were dating and the girl was 17. Garrett Drew Roegner of Plymouth has pleaded guilty to one count of transporting child pornography and one count of extortion. He admits he posted a series of messages on Myspace.com this past May, threatening to post the pictures of his former girlfriend if she refused to meet him.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Rose says this case is a “chilling example…of the terrible consequences of teens taking sexually explicit pictures” of themselves. Rose says once a picture is “out there” on the Internet, there’s “no way to get it back” and it’s available “for anyone to see.”

Roegner has been sentenced to more than six years in a federal prison.
