A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the northeast third of Iowa through 6 a.m. tomorrow. The advisory covers the cities of Algona, Mason City, Waterloo, Dubuque, Clinton and Davenport. National Weather Service Meteorologist Frank Boksa says the region can expect snow to start flying sometime this afternoon.

The advisory area could receive three to six inches of snow. One to three inches of snow is expected over sections of northwest, central and southeast Iowa. The southwest third of the state is forecast to receive little or no accumulation. The snow could present some problems for travelers, but nothing like last weekend.

“The big thing between this system and the system we had over the weekend is we’re not looking for wind with this one,” Boksa said. “We’ll have some reduced visibility with the heavier snow, but it won’t be blizzard conditions and we won’t have frigid cold that we experienced over the weekend.” The rest of the week, Thursday through Sunday, should be dry with high temperatures mainly in the teens and 20s.
