A Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s deputy and a motorist he was helping narrowly escaped getting seriously hurt Wednesday afternoon in a mishap near Underwood. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sergeant Dwayne Richie  says the motorist had slid off the road due to black ice and the deputy lending a hand.

As the deputy was helping the motorist out of the ditch, he had walked up to his cruiser and spotted a pickup truck spinning out of control and heading his direction. The video camera was running on the cruiser’s dashboard so he and the motorist are seeing running back into the ditch to avoid getting hit. The truck slammed into the deputy’s car and did significant damage. No charges were filed. No one was hurt.
