The most bitter cold weather of the season so far is making its way into Iowa. A Wind Chill Advisory takes effect tonight through tomorrow morning for much of the state. Brad Small, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says if you thought it was cold this morning, wait until tonight.

Lows tonight and tomorrow morning across much of Iowa will be in the single-digits below zero and teens below zero while the strong gusts may combine to knock wind chills down into the 20s and 30s-below zero. Small says anyone venturing outside will need to be well-protected against the frigid winds and extreme cold.

Small says winds will weaken tonight but will pick back up tomorrow morning and temps will remain very cold across much of Iowa. As the temperatures warm slightly during the day tomorrow, Small says parts of Iowa may also see more flakes flying. He says we’ll rebound on Friday with highs into the teens above zero, while some areas may see an inch or two of snow.

Small says highs next week may reach the 20s but no higher, as he says there is -no- significant warm-up on the way.
