A Minnesota teen accused of murdering two north-central Iowa convenience store clerks has waived his right to a speedy trial. Seventeen-year-old Michael Swanson of St. Louis Park Minnesota is charged as an adult with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in Kossuth and Humboldt counties.

Swanson is accused of killing clerks Vicky Bowman Hall and Shiela Myers at the Crossroads store in Algona on November 15th and the Kum & Go store in Humboldt. Swanson was scheduled to go on trial on February 15th in Humboldt County District Court and March 1st in Kossuth County District Court.

His attorney Charles Kenville filed the motions to waive Swanson’s right to a speedy trial in both jurisdictions on Wednesday. No new trial dates have been set. Earlier this month, Kenville also filed motions to have Swanson’s cases transferred to juvenile court. Swanson remains in the Kossuth County jail on $1 million bond.
