In class 3A, fourth ranked Davenport Assumption held off a late rally by fifth ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton to post a 67-60 win. Assumption coach Jennifer Goetz says the win summed up the team, that they are not a one person team, they had several kids step up and had a balanced attack. She says her team did a good job of holding off the Warriors down the stretch.

Goetz says they answered every run with a run of their own and had the last run, which is the most important. Sergeant Bluff-Luton coach Miranda Boekhout praised the effort of her team. She says they played good defense and knew it was going to be a battle. She says a few times down the floor they traded possessions instead of getting stops and that was the difference in the game.

It was an exciting post season run for the Warriors who were making their tournament debut. Boekhout says it was the first tournament game where they went into the lockerroom ahead at halftime. She says that’s “king of crazy” but they worked hard and were blessed this season with a lot of accomplishments.

Betsy Thomas led Sergeant Bluff-Luton with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Danielle Moore had 25 points to lead Assumption which shot just over 54% from the field.
