Sophomore guard Ally Disterhoft finished with 19 points and her three pointer to open the fourth quarter triggered a 14-2 run as third ranked Iowa City West rallied past number six Cedar Rapids Washington 67-58 in a class 4A quarterfinal. Disterhoft says they’ve been practicing for this moment the whole season and that paid off when it came down to crunch time.

Washington held a 45-39 lead heading into the final quarter but the Women of Troy hit a trio of three pointers in their first minute and 52 seconds of the fourth quarter to turn the game around as they come up a winner in their first ever trip to state. Disterhoft says they have always said they were a second half team and the locked down on defense and got the job done.

Senior standout Tia Dawson scored 27 points and added 14 rebounds for Washington which closes out the season with a record of 19-4. Washington coach Frank Howell says you have to credit your opponent as they made some big plays and hit big shots down the stretch while forcing turnovers.

Howell says he was pleased with the effort his team gave as they played their heart out and it was a case of getting beat instead of losing the game.

West improves to 22-2 on the season.
