Work continues on the building, and the hiring will soon get underway for the employees who’ll work in Iowa’s new casino in northwest Iowa. The general manager of the Grand Falls Resort, Sharon Haselhoff, says things are rapidly coming together at the facility in Lyon County.

Haselhoff says they are putting on the final touches such as the wallpaper, paint, carpeting, flooring, kitchen equipment and slot machines are arriving. She says they are now looking to open the doors in just a couple of months. Haselhoff says they are ahead of schedule, as they had targeted an opening on or before July 4th. but now they are looking at a grand opening on Thursday May 26th.

The hiring is starting to get underway. Haselhoff says they are having informational meetings this weekend for their dealer school at Larchwood, and that school continues until the beginning of May when they have auditions for dealers. She says they are starting to handle managers and supervisors and then in mid-May they will start holding job fairs to hire the 700 some workers needed to run the resort.

Haselhoff says her time is filled with watching deadlines and checking deliveries. She says she has to watch the schedule for delivering all the equipment and making sure it shows up when it is needed. Haselhoff is moving over from the Riverside Casino, which is owned by the same company as the new casino. She says the experience at the Riverside Casino has made it easier to get the Lyon County casino going.
