The funeral arrangements are set for a Keokuk County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot to death while on an investigation Monday. Visition for 39-year-old Sergeant Eric Stein will be Friday, April 8th from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sigourney High School.

Stein’s funeral is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the high school. The Iowa State Patrol says Stein was shot to death Monday by 53-year-old Jeff Krier as he and two other officers visited Krier’s home to investigate another incident.

Marlow says the State Patrol tactical unit later shot and killed the suspect, 53-year-old Jeff Krier. Marlow says the shooting investigation continues and there are several details that cannot be released. He says this type of shooting is rare.

Deputy Stein had been with the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office since July of 2000. A memorial fund for the family of Sgt. Stein has been set up at Keokuk County State Bank (641-622-2525) located at 201 S. Jefferson, Sigourney, Iowa 52591.
