The flooding Mississippi River is forcing the closure of some main streets in Davenport. Although businesses remain open, portions of some streets will soon be under water and traffic is being rerouted. That includes busy River Drive, Highway 61.

The Mississippi River at Lock & Dam 15 in Davenport is approaching 17 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. It’s expected to rise to about 19 feet next week, according to a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service. Davenport is prepared. Thousands of sandbags are ready to go. Workers and volunteers filled them several weeks ago in anticipation of a record flood that never materialized.
