Running back Shontrelle Johnson likes the potential of the Iowa State offense for next season. Johnson is one of four vying to take over for Alexander Robinson and the sophomore from Florida had 59 yards of rushing as the Cardinal defeated the Gold squad 35-22 in Saturday’s spring game.

Johnson says when everybody is clicking together, they have a lot of playmakers and should be tough.

Johnson feels as a group the running backs performed well as he says the defense threw a lot of looks at them. He says they seem to do much better in picking up the blitzes thrown at them.

The Cyclones will open the 2011 season at home against U.N.I. on September third.
