One man is under arrest and a 7-year-old girl is dead after being struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run accident in rural Worth County this morning.

State Patrol trooper Mindy Griffin says they were called our shortly before eight o’clock this morning to an address about two-and-a-half miles northeast of Kensett on County Road S-52 on a report that a child had been struck.

She says the child walking across the road to get on a stopped school bus that had its lights flashing and stop sign out, when the child was struck by a vehicle that didn’t obey the sign and lights. Griffin says the driver of the pickup was apprehended a short time later.

Griffin says authorities have the suspect and the truck in question, but she didn’t have any information about either when she was interviewed at the accident scene. The bus is from the Northwood-Kensett school district.

The child’s name has not been released at this time pending the notification of relatives, and the Worth County Sheriff’s Department has not released any information regarding the suspect.
