A southwest Iowa lawmaker is facing a drunken driving charge.

Officials in the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s office say Wednesday, at around 3:30 p.m., a deputy arrested State Representative Greg Forristall after Forristall’s vehicle was observed driving erratically in Carson on Highway 92.

The deputy was eastbound on the highway and pulled onto the shoulder of the road to avoid a vehicle that was driving westbound in the eastbound lane. The deputy followed the vehicle and observed the vehicle drive into the eastbound lane again. The deputy pulled the vehicle over, and spoke to the driver, who was Greg Forristall of rural Macedonia.

According to the sheriff’s department, Forristall’s blood-alcohol content was three times over the legal limit and it was determined there was enough probable cause to arrest Forristall on suspicion of a first offense of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

The Republican lawmaker was transported to the Pottawattamie County Jail where he was booked and processed. Forristall posted $1,000 bond and has been released. Calls to Forristall were not immediately returned.

Forristall is the chairman of the House Education Committee.  The Iowa House was not in session yesterday when the incident occurred.
