Cedar Rapids police have identified the officer who, in a photo, appears to be sleeping on the job. The photo was forwarded to police and the media last week by Tim Pugh, a Cedar Rapids resident who recently led a group opposed to a local sales tax referendum.
Pugh said a friend, who did not want to be identified, snapped the photo last Tuesday in the Czech Village area. It appears to show a police officer sleeping in his patrol car.
Cedar Rapids police spokesperson Cristy Hamblin says the department has identified the officer, but his name is not being released. An advertising agency in Cedar Rapids has examined the photo, but could not determine if it had been digitally altered. Pugh claims the photo is “legit” and shows the department is wasting taxpayer dollars.
