The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the discovery of human remains in Dow City. A bag of bones was found Monday night in an unoccupied warehouse.

Dow City had scheduled for that building to be demolished, and the discovery was made by several people who were cleaning out the building prior to its destruction. Crawford County Sheriff Jim Steinkuehler contacted a Medical Examiner who determined the bones were human.

The investigation continued Tuesday morning and the human remains were turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis and to possibly determine an origin, identification, and age of the bones. The Sheriff, and D.C.I. are continuing to investigate when the remains were taken to the warehouse, and who may have knowledge of there origin.
