A 51-year-old Cedar Rapids man who served nine years in prison could be sent back to prison for life after an alleged kidnapping this past weekend.

Cedar Rapids police say William Roby forced a woman into his apartment on Sunday night at about eight o’clock, held her captive for 10 hours and sexually assaulted her several times. Police say Roby and the woman, who is 62, had dated, but she was not in his apartment building to see him; she was there for another reason when Roby saw her and then forced her into his apartment.

Roby was convicted of attempted murder in Webster County in 1991 and released early from prison for good behavior after serving nine years of his 25-year sentence.  He was on parole ’til 2002. Roby now faces a first degree kidnaping charge and, if convicted, would be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
