A soldier from northeast Iowa was injured by an explosion while on duty in Afghanistan. A public Facebook page dedicated to Specialist Zach Schick of Sumner features hundreds of people sending their prayers and best wishes to the soldier and his family.

Information on the page says Schick was injured while on foot patrol with the Second Battallion, Second Infantry Division, Third Brigade Combat Team of the First Infantry. He was treated in Afghanistan and then flown to Germany with burns and injuries to his leg, jaw, ears and arteries in his neck.

A post from his mother says he is in serious but stable condition, and doctors hope he can be flown back to Washington Friday. Schick is a 2008 graduate of Sumner-Fredericksburg High School.
