It wasn’t the sky, but the roof that was falling in part of a junior high school in eastern Iowa. Vernon Middle School in Marion is scheduled to be demolished this summer, but school officials announced Tuesday there had been a “change in the construction schedule.”

Turns out a ceiling in a third-floor classroom collapsed at about one o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Luckily, no one was in the classroom at the time, so no one was hurt.

The nearly 480 middle school students who go to school in that building were to have one more day of school, but they were dismissed early for summer break and there are no classes today.

Once the old building is demolished, a new school will be built on the same site, with the goal of having it done in time for the start of classes in the fall of 2013.
