A Heat Advisory is posted today through Wednesday for 14 counties in eastern and southeastern Iowa. Cities under the advisory include: Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Davenport, Iowa City and Mount Pleasant.

Aubrey Wilkins, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says the heat index may reach 104 degrees.

Winds from the south will be pulling in heat, pushing temperatures into the mid to upper 90s today with just a slight cool-off expected tomorrow, with highs in the low to mid-90s.

Humidity is up about ten-points compared to last week, making it feel much hotter.

Wilkins says the heat wave won’t last. A cold front should arrive late Wednesday and into Thursday, pushing highs back down into the 70s by Friday.

Wilkins says the heat should remind Iowans to take care of themselves when outside and she notes, Thursday marks the annual Heat Awareness Day in Iowa.

Pointers include: Wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, check on elderly neighbors, take plenty of breaks when working outide and drink plenty of water.
