Severe storms have been rumbling across much of Iowa this morning. Thousands of people are without power in Marshalltown. Trees are down across roadways in the town after a strong storm moved through after 4 a.m. By 5 a.m., Alliant Energy reported more than 27,000 customers without electricity in Iowa.

MidAmerican Energy had 6,100 customers in the dark – primarily in Des Moines and Iowa City. The morning storms will give way to more heat and humidity. A Heat Advisory is in effect through 7 p.m. for much of southwestern, central and south-central Iowa. Highs are expected in the low to mid 90s, with heat indices ranging from 100 to 110 degrees this afternoon.

The hot and muggy conditions will continue through the week, with occasional, scattered thunderstorms as well.
